What the Bible tells us about motherhood, family, and birth:

1 John 4:7

Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.

John 16:21

Whenever a woman is in labor she has pain, because her hour has come; but when she gives birth to the child, she no longer remembers the anguish because of the joy that a child has been born into the world.

Proverbs 1:8

Hear, my son, your father’s instruction

And do not forsake your mother’s teaching;

1 Peter 2:2

like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow in respect to salvation

Proverbs 22:6

Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.

Genesis 2:24

Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

Genesis 1:28

God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”

What is a Doula?

A Doula is your mental and emotional support and advocacy during pregnancy, labor, birth, and in the postpartum season. We encourage you to listen to your body, follow your maternal instincts, be aware of patient autonomy in the healthcare system, conduct evidence-based research when needed, help your family become familiar with labor, birth, and how you can prepare prenatally, and in postpartum. Between comfort measures, evidence-based practices, birth planning, labor preparation, logistical plans, and addressing all concerns and worries- we hope to guide you through a safer and healthier pregnancy, labor and birth experience. Doulas act as a bridge between the mother/family and the healthcare system or otherwise, labor and birth in a birthing center or at home through continuous support.

Those who hire a doula have a 47% lower risk of a cesarean than those who did not hire a doula. Often times, cesareans can be avoided with holistic methods, preparing your pelvic floor for birth, and having the right people in your corner. Birth is a team effort, and while you do the hard work of labor, we team up to help you through all stages of labor.

Through continuous support and getting to know your family over the course of 3-9 months, your doula becomes your sounding board, someone to bounce things off of, and with use of evidence-based knowledge, we hope to give you the birth of your dreams.

Just as a woman's heart knows how and when to pump, her lungs to inhale, and her hand to pull back from fire, so she knows when and how to give birth.
